THE SKINNY ON THE GRADES OF HARDWOOD
The two most common hardwoods installed in homes today are red and white oaks. For red and white oak hardwood flooring, common grades include:
Select: (Highest Quality)Clean appearance with minimal knots and color variation.
#1 Common: Similar to Select, it has some small knots, mineral streaks, and color variation.
#2 Common: Exhibits great character with a larger color variation and knots and is often referred to as Rustic or Cabin grade. Choosing the right hardwood for your home comes down to personal preference, budget, style, and the stain color you have in mind. Brian's Flooring & Design will walk you through the process one step at a time.
